Analytical thinking is now the single most sought-after skill among employers (World Economic Forum, 2025) — yet students are arriving less prepared to exercise it. Researchers at Stanford University found that most students, from middle school through college, struggle to judge whether what they read online is credible. And a 2025 MIT Media Lab study warns of cognitive debt — the mental engagement that weakens when the work of thinking is handed to AI. Our academic courses are built to close that gap: to teach students to weigh evidence, hear the strongest version of a view they don’t hold, and reason toward conclusions they can defend.

A republic depends on citizens who understand it — yet only about two-thirds of Americans can name the three branches of their own government (Annenberg / University of Pennsylvania, 2024), just 22% of eighth-graders reached “Proficient” on the national civics assessment, the first decline on record (NAEP, 2022), and roughly one in four eligible citizens isn’t even registered to vote (U.S. Census Bureau, 2024). Our History and Government courses teach students how government actually works, how a citizen takes part, and how to weigh evidence and opposing views — no partisanship, no intellectual shortcuts.
