Why I Created FaithCore Lab

When I joined the U.S. Navy Reserve, I was introduced to something that would shape the rest of my career: online education. At the time, several universities were beginning to offer degree programs that could be completed remotely. It gave me the opportunity to finish my college education while serving, and it completely changed the way I thought about learning.

I became convinced that education could be far more accessible, engaging, and effective than the traditional classroom model. That conviction led me to found a company that designed and delivered online learning for businesses, universities, and organizations across a wide range of industries. For years, I helped adults learn new skills, solve real-world problems, and apply what they learned immediately in their work.

Later, I began teaching high school Bible, U.S. History, and World History. What I discovered surprised me.

Many students earned excellent grades, yet much of what they learned disappeared soon after the test. They had mastered memorization, but too often they had not developed understanding. They knew the facts, but they had not wrestled with the ideas behind them.

In history, students could recite dates, battles, and historical figures, yet often struggled to explain the decisions, beliefs, and chain reactions that led to those events—or how those same patterns continue to shape our world today.

In Bible class, many students could quote Scripture and answer questions correctly, yet I found myself asking a deeper question:

If God’s Word is truly life-changing, why wasn’t that transformation becoming more evident in their daily lives?

The issue wasn’t the students, and it wasn’t their teachers.

It was the educational model.

Too often, education has become very good at helping students pass tests, but not nearly as good at preparing them for life. It rewards remembering information more than developing wisdom. It measures what students can repeat rather than how they learn to think critically, discern truth from error, make wise decisions, and apply timeless principles when life becomes difficult.

At the same time, another reality was becoming impossible to ignore.

Artificial intelligence is transforming education, careers, and nearly every profession. Knowledge has become instantly available, and many technical tasks that once distinguished people are rapidly becoming automated. As that happens, the qualities that make us uniquely human become even more valuable: wisdom, discernment, character, emotional intelligence, creativity, leadership, resilience, and the ability to build meaningful relationships.

Yet many young people are entering adulthood uncertain about who they are, what they believe, and why they matter. In the absence of a strong identity, culture is always ready to provide one. If we fail to help students know who they are in Christ, the world will gladly tell them who they should be.

At a time when many churches are experiencing declining attendance, young adults are disengaging from their faith, and thousands of congregations are closing across America (Lifeway Research, 2021), helping students build a lifelong relationship with Jesus Christ has never been more important.

That is why FaithCore Lab exists.

FaithCore Lab was born from a simple conviction: education should do more than prepare students for college or a career. It should prepare them for life.

It should help students develop a lifelong relationship with Jesus Christ, build their identity on who God says they are, discover the unique purpose for which they were created, and develop the wisdom, character, emotional intelligence, and resilience to faithfully navigate a world that is changing faster than any generation before them.

Everything we build—from BibleCore to PurposeCore and every course that follows—is designed with that mission in mind: helping students not only know God’s Word, but learn to think biblically, live wisely, and faithfully fulfill the purpose for which God created them.

My prayer is that decades from now, when today’s students are leading families, churches, businesses, and communities, they’ll look back and say: “FaithCore didn’t just help me learn the Bible—it helped shape the person I became, deepen my relationship with Jesus Christ, and prepare me to faithfully live out the purpose God created me to fulfill.”
